This campsite is run by Forest Holidays and is a campsite in a forest as you may have guessed.
We arrived midday and checked in, you can check in from 12pm here which is nice and early compared to other campsites which is usually after 3pm. We had booked a hardstanding area which comes with electric which we wouldn’t be needing.
It is a first come first served for the pitches to which there are many to choose from, all unique within the forest and with good separation from the other pitches. The Ffestiniog steam railway line runs right next to site and we picked one of the pitches literally next to the lines so Coben could see the trains. It was quite an experience watching them go past from the door of the van.
It was a nice experience staying inside the forest, there are log cabins available to hire on site as well as a tent area which is lower down on a meadow next to the river, it was quite small but had a nice feel to it and was pretty busy.
The facilities were plentiful, clean and more than adequate. Each cubicle had a toilet, shower and wash basin there were also two family rooms.
There’s a shop / cafe on site plus a bakery where you can order breakfast pastries and the like from. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try it out this time.
There are waymarked walks into the forest from the site and a nice 45 min walk into Beddgelert village where there are cafes, pubs, ice cream parlours and outdoor shops.
The background to the name Beddgelert is a sad story which can be read here. Be sure to visit ‘Gelert’s Grave’ which is a short walk south of the village following the banks of the river Glaslyn there are different length waymarked walks from here so plenty to go at.
The mountains can also be accessed from here which is something we will definitely be exploring next time.
If you want a forest camping experience bringing you closer to nature and relaxation we recommend Beddgelert forest campsite. We will be visiting again.
